The Bureau is hiring: Apply to be our Production Editor

The Bureau of Investigative Journalism is seeking to recruit a great editor with a flair for writing who will be responsible for overseeing all output. This position is an initial nine month contract to cover our current production editor’s maternity leave.

It is a varied role with multiple responsibilities including:

  • Rewriting, subbing and fact-checking copy, including our stories, blog posts and external comms

  • Producing and publishing stories in our CMS, including headlining, picture selection and layout

  • Working with reporters on their storytelling and how to make maximum impact with their investigations

  • Running the Bureau’s social media accounts and website, and continuing to build our online presence

  • Contributing to regular ideas and story development meetings

Candidates must have experience on a news or commissioning desk, exceptional writing abilities and excellent social media skills.

The ideal candidate will also have:

  • A good understanding of current media law

  • Several years editing experience

  • Meticulous fact-checking abilities

  • Demonstrable enthusiasm for investigative journalism

  • An interest in innovative approaches to storytelling and production and a desire to incorporate them into the Bureau’s output

Salary: Up to £46,000 (pro rata). Starting August/September.
