One week left to apply for position of Managing Editor

There is just one week left to apply for the position of managing editor of the Bureau of Investigative Journalism.

This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic individual to position this unique organisation at the forefront of investigative journalism in the digital future.

The Bureau is a multi-award winning, independent, non-profit organisation, dedicated to investigative journalism for the public benefit in the UK and internationally.

The Bureau has two remits:

  1. To produce groundbreaking investigations for the public benefit.
  2. To discover new models of investigative journalism using technology and community-based approaches to accelerate the process and further the reach of stories.

The Bureau’s trustees are looking for a new managing editor who can fulfil both those mandates.

In addition, the right candidate will be expected to:

  • Represent the Bureau to the public, including readers, contributors, media and funders
  • Manage the Bureau’s output with a clear and focused strategy
  • Develop a lean, start-up approach to technological innovation around investigative journalism
  • Find and manage digital partners capable of delivering new platforms for investigation and distribution
  • Find new funding sources.

The new managing editor will be profoundly entrepreneurial. He or she will also have:

  • Extensive experience of investigative journalism
  • Clear overview of the technological tools available to investigative journalists
  • Proven management ability
  • Extensive media contacts, and a strong voice, to better represent the work of the Bureau at an international level.

Applications will close at midnight on Sunday June 15.

The Board will seek to make the final appointment by mid-July.

Salary is negotiable.
