Bureau project wins bronze at Lovie awards

Bureau project Where The Drones Strike has won bronze in the ‘Best News Website’ category at the fourth annual Lovie awards.

The website was created by the Bureau’s drones team in collaboration with research project Forensic Architecture at Goldsmiths, University of London, and design company Situ Research in New York.

Where The Drones Strike is a visualisation of the Bureau’s database of drone strikes in Pakistan between 2004 and 2014. This database includes information on the time, location and type of each target – whether the strike hit a vehicle, outdoor gathering or one of several types of building – and was cross-referenced with data indicating the number of people reported killed in each strike. All this data was then put on a map.

The Lovie awards are named after computing pioneer Ada Lovelace. They are pan-European and were set up four years ago to “honour European excellence” in online innovation.
