Hundreds of UK police sacked in secret for misconduct and committing crime

An investigation by the The Times newspaper has revelaed that up to 160 police officers are sacked every year- but their hearings are conducted in secret.
Following Freedom of information requests to all 52 police forces the paper  found that many were suspended on full pay or gven restricted duties, often for prolonged periods, at an estimated cost of £2.7 million each year.

Over the last three years 477 officers have been dismissed, 52 were demoted and hundreds more fined or repremanded.

All disciplinary proceedings took place in private.
