The Bureau recommends an investigation by the Daily Mail into redundancy payments to staff at Regional Development Agencies (RDAs).

All nine RDAs are being scrapped next year, and seven of the quangos have so far paid over £23m to staff who will lose their jobs.

The average payment for the 799 staff made redundant was almost £30,000, but this hides substantially larger amounts received by those at the top.

One unnamed official at Advantage West Midlands was paid between £200,000 and £250,000, while a further 15 members of staff across the 9 RDAs received more than £100,000.

The scale of the payments has been criticised by MPs who called for a review of the rules.
