The Bureau is recruiting a social media co-ordinator

The Bureau of Investigative Journalism is looking for a dynamic individual to co-ordinate our web and social media activity in order to further the impact and take-up of our work. This is an exciting opportunity to join the Bureau.

The social media co-ordinator will work alongside our deputy editor to formulate and plan digital content and online strategies. A key responsibility of this role will be to develop and manage social media for our many projects, so proven experience of moderation and participation on online community sites will be essential. They will also help to develop publication strategies, develop relationships with online publishers and content aggregators, and produce newsletters and reports based on our research, including impact reports.

The role would suit a recent graduate who has some journalistic experience or journalistic training. They will certainly need to show an interest in social and world issues. They will also show an awareness of the leading international digital media platforms and have a clear understanding of social media and web technology.

But most of all they will need to be a team player, who displays enthusiasm for and an innate understanding of how social media and the wider internet can be used to promote the Bureau’s work.

The job in summary:

Core Responsibilities:

Social media:

  • Ensuring regular updates to both Facebook and Twitter
  • Implementing a strategy for building both followers and likes
  • Raise awareness for readers and funders

Republishing:

  • Identifying websites for republishing The Bureau’s content
  • Managing relationships with republishing websites
  • Increasing traffic to the Bureau’s website using this channel
  • Identify blogs and other on-line influencers that will republish The Bureau’s content

Analytics reporting:

  • Deliver daily / weekly / monthly traffic reports
  • Use analytics to help develop and inform an online media strategy

Qualifications and Skills:

  • A proven track record in social media with references
  • An awareness of Reddit / Stumbleupon / Digg / Forums
  • Familiarity with RSS feeds
  • A desire to work in a cutting edge journalistic environment
  • Time management and attention to detail
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Thorough and accurate in all aspects of work
  • A desire to be challenged and learn new skills

This position will be appointed as a fixed term contract initially for 3 months.
