The Independent asks: Has undercover journalism gone too far?

Investigative reporters, and in particular the methods they use, are hitting the headlines.

The News of the World is engulfed in legal claims over its alleged use of telephone hacking, while the Daily Telegraph is being investigated by the Press Complaints Commission following its use of undercover reporters to record conversations with Vince Cable, the Business Secretary.

The Bureau’s editor, Iain Overton enters the debate about whether such methods justify the means in the Independent.
